James Thompson
James is a Managing Director at Alexander Hutton. He leads transactions across a wide variety of industries, and directs the firm's growth and strategic initiatives. James held Associate and Vice President roles at Alexander Hutton in his early career, and returned to the firm in 2019 as a Managing Director to be an advocate to the entrepreneur community.
James' experience comes from corporate finance (banking, investment banking, and venture capital) as well as operational leadership roles. Prior to rejoining Alexander Hutton, James served as the CFO and then CEO of HaloSource, where he led the team that completed the $80M oversubscribed 2010 IPO and subsequent sale to Strix, PLC. Throughout his career he has closed 40+ transactions and raised $250M+ in growth capital.
James is a member of the Board of Directors of Brown Strauss, Inc., a $600M revenue steel distribution business headquartered in Denver, Colorado. He is also President for the Montana Ambassadors' Board of Directors. The Montana Ambassadors is a volunteer, not-for-profit, bi-partisan organization made up of leaders in business with a common dedication to fostering economic development in the state of Montana. Having been on "all sides of the table” (operator, financier and intermediary) James brings a unique perspective to his advocacy work.
James received his BBA from Gonzaga University’s School of Business and his MBA in Entrepreneurship from the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington.
While his roots run deep in Montana, James has made Seattle home for 25 years where he has raised his three kids, Sam (18), Maddie (17), and Charlie (15) on Mercer Island.
